Pick a job, any job

Ok, well, as I mentioned in another post, I enjoy working with computers, I have worked with them in many ways throughout the years and was dead set on my path to becoming a programmer, and then I merged onto a different path. I figured IT was the best route to take, but what jobs are there for techy people that don’t want to code? I'm okay with being a programmer but I need to figure this out soon in case I end up changing my mind, obviously - I’m a junior, for crying out loud.

Google doesn’t let me down very often, so I looked it up - voila - there’s an article for that, ok, A LOT of articles for that!

With that being said, I found this article and assessed the jobs included within.

Data Analyst

I don’t think I’d want to be a Data Analyst. I like making things and watching them work if possible, and although it involves fixing code errors which are kind of creating something, most of it is rearranging and making it look nice, which, to be honest, I'm not great at making things look spiffy.

Scrum Master

I admit I didn’t know what that meant. I thought it had something to do with sports. I mean, what a cool name, though. Scrum master isn't something I’d see myself going after however, but I’d be more likely to do it than being a data analyst. Being able to work with other people and make sure that everyone is working together and that the development process is going swiftly and well is something I can much more easily get behind than tidying up some data.

IT Business Analyst

The IT Business Analyst is probably the one I’d be least likely to choose along with being a Data Analyst, I’m still creating something, even if it is just organizing and rearranging, but this role is more of letting everyone know what they need to create something, and feels a lot less likely actually to be making something. Although these people are needed, it's just not my style.

Project Manager

This one actually looks like it is the one that is best aligned with my degree. The Project Manager is somewhat similar to the Scrum Master. The Scrum Master makes sure that the teammates are working together, whereas the Project Manager is making sure the project gets finished as a whole and making sure that the members and teams share the visions and goals of the project.

QA Tester

I’m sorry - but after graduating high school and then going through college - the term “tester” just doesn’t sit well. QA Testers are essentially bug testers, and although extremely necessary, it seems extremely unfulfilling to me. I understand that not having bugs is very important and testing to see if they exist is also very important, but they also make sure that the product looks high-end or appealing to the customer. This is a nice addition to being a QA Tester, as you can help make an appealing product, even if you aren't actually making it - again though - doesn’t seem like something I would want.

UX Designers

UX designers are more my style! Although I very much dislike the process of making a storyboard, as I have done it quite a few times for high school classes and college classes, it is much more my style. Especially since other activities in this role are creating prototypes and implementing different pieces of the project - overall, just cleaning up the project in a presentable manner and delivering a finished prototype.

Digital Marketing

Lastly, there's digital marketing. Now I think being good at marketing could be very self-rewarding and even fun at certain times, but with how I am, I would probably suck at marketing. I feel like marketing is essential as no business gets anywhere without it, but I am not your man to pick for the job, and I'll gladly admit that and stick to my guns.

Wow - well, I feel like I learned a lot just by going through the list. Unfortunately I don't think I found what I was looking for but I have more ideas now! I know there are more exhaustive lists - perhaps I’ll go through some more another day. If you are like any of my friends that have decided coding is not for you - then perhaps you found this list helpful. If you think you can give me any advice as to what my niche may be - leave me a comment…I’d love to hear your opinion.
